50,000 dogs beaten to death in China.
There are a number of reasons I do my best to avoid buying made-in-China products - it's a politically repressive, ugly regime.
Here is another one.
This of course isn't counting the dogs that get tortured (in the belief it makes the meat more tender) before being slaughtered for meat. Or the thousands of dogs raised & killed for fur - often sold here in the US in the guise of other more acceptable fur fashion items - in China.
But hey, they make cheap shit and your local Walmart is happy to sell it to you.
Fuckers.

After I initially read this story, I was sitting at my desk and preparing a gift -- a framed photo. I bought a photo frame last night at Cost Plus, and today when I took it out of the box I saw it marked, "Made in China". It was unfortunately ironic. I also received a UPS delivery today of a something I purchased for my mother, and when I opened the box it also said, "Made in China". It's insidious.
It is, huh..! Funny though, I just ordered two things that arrived UPS yesterday...not by design, both were made here. (A cooling crate mat and a shade cloth, for Cooper when we go to agility trials.)
I'm not a rabid buy-USA type, but if say I'm browing T shirts and the choice comes down to made in China and made someplace else, someplace else gets my $$.
And I will not set foot in Walmart. :)
I hate walmart too but as far as things like Laundry Detergent I go. Everything else is outrageously more expensive where I live. And to think, they make such a big deal about how everything that they sell is made in the US. I wonder how they get away with that? I heard a story a few years ago...never found out what happened...about a lady who got injured and got hurt really bad, brain damage, would have to stay in a long-term care facility for the rest of her life. Her family won a lawsuit against whoever had injured her and Wal-mart was suing the family for the money. What creeps!@! How Creepy!!
I've seen this topic posted on several dog boards, and I have yet to click on the link. I just don't think my little brain can handle it.
Maybe I'll scrounge up the courage in a few days, although I doubt it.
And I knew there was a reason I didn't shop at Wal-Mart. Just couldn't put my finger on it. Now I can. Thank you.
Diana, about 70% of what Walmart sells is made in China, they demand high improt quotas from their suppliers.
I actuallyy don't find them much cheaper ; when I've gone I didn't notice any screaming deals and much of what they had I could find as cheap or cheaper elsewhere, especially looking for sales.
Good article:

Hey Great Dane addict! The article I linked to doesn't have any photos, thankfully...some do. :(
Thanks for stopping by, I really like the stencil project on your blog!
We avoid our nearby Walmart because the place is always packed, and because they really pander to the local Mormon population with big displays of Mormon books near the entry doors. That said, the once a year or so we do have to go there (one of our neighbours often gives us gift certificates from Walmart), their food prices are so incredibly low. I bought a jumbo-sized box of Honeycomb cereal for $2.50, and that same box was over $5 at the local grocery store. I can see how people can get hooked on the place.
i call wal-mart the house of satan...i dont go..period..even though i live in little town that is about 15 miles from nearest wal-mart..i buy local..by the time you stick the gas price on to it..it's about the same(no more then i would buy)...and even though i use our little dollar store here i dont but anything that is made in china..if i want to buy a gift I go buy used baskets, paint or repaint and fill it with homemade cookies, or something that i have made...f***them chinese..
